Kat stood back and admired her handy work. With a little bit of patience, she had managed to turn dorm room #22 of Starlight Academy into something that resembled a home, rather then just a shell of a bedroom. The white walls had been left alone, and only a few black and white photos by her favorite Toronto photographer hung on them. Her few stainless steel appliances had been set up, and her glass futuristic desk had been put together. Her Mac notebook sat on top of it, and quietly played her newest playlist. Two white fuzzy beanbags sat by the bed, with a silky purple pillows on top. A purple coffee table sat in between them, and Kat had designated this the eating area. Her bed was made up with her favorite purple duvet and a assortment of white and silver pillows. The wooden floor was covered and furry white carpet, with purple speckles in it. A purple and silver polka dotted lap stood in the corner, and she turned it on, then flicked off the main lights.
The darkness and silence made Kat relax. She had been so wired because of her nerves, she'd unpacked everything just to keep busy and distracted. Her closet was full, her room was stocked, and her boxes sat empty by the door. She felt tired, and lost. No matter how hard she tried, she could not stop thinking about Jake. She turned and stared at the photo she had of her and him on her night stand. They looked so happy, sticking their tongues out, eyes crossed, with their arms casually slung over each others shoulders. You could see their mom laughing in the background. It seemed like it was taken a lifetime ago, not just 8 months ago. So much had changed.
With a sigh, Kat laid on to her back on her bed and stared up at the ceiling. She could hear voices in the hall. Students were starting to arrive, since classes were probably coming to an end. A quick glance at her alarm clock confirmed this. Glancing down, she sighed again. She was wearing dark grey sweats, a black Lululemon hoodie, and a hot pink tank top. Her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, with her bangs hanging loose across her face. She wore basic make-up, nothing fancy. She was definitely not looking good enough to confidently meet any of her classmates. With that thought, she rose to her feet and closed the door almost all the way, on leaving it open about an inch.
Kat shuffled over to her fuzzy bean bag chair and collapsed in it. She sung along quietly to the song playing on her laptop, waiting for something, anything to happen.
